Meta Preps New Chip to Double Its Artificial Intelligence Capacity

Meta is preparing to produce a new processor designed specifically to run artificial intelligence functions across its platforms.

The company expects to begin manufacturing in September and use the chip in its own data centers.

Meta wants to rely less on Nvidia

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta's artificial intelligence projects require enormous processing power.

Currently, much of that infrastructure runs on processors made by Nvidia and other outside companies.

Developing its own chips could allow Meta to cut costs, boost the performance of its services, and expand its computing capacity.
